Placing our BETs in Budapest

Summary:Budapest

I’m hopping on a plane in a few days to Budapest, Hungary, for the Bluetooth SIG 10th annual All Hands Meeting that begins April 12th. I always get excited about this meeting for different reasons every year. This year it’s because this will be the first time our members get the chance to meet the chairs of our new Bluetooth Ecosystem Teams (BETs) and hear first-hand about the vital work these teams will be doing in the months and years to come.

I’ve written before about our BETs, but it’s worth repeating. The Bluetooth SIG has its sights set in 2011 on key markets where we see great potential for Bluetooth technology. Last fall, we created separate BET to focus on each of these markets:

◦Automotive ◦Consumer electronics and personal computers ◦Health and fitness ◦Mobile phones ◦Smart energy These are where we are “placing our BETs” on the future of Bluetooth technology. Our goal is to drive the proliferation of billions of Bluetooth v4.0 enabled devices. Our BET chairs and BET members come from key companies in each of these industries. They’ve formulated strategies that Bluetooth SIG members will hear about in Budapest, such as why we see a big opportunity in the television market and how we plan to get Bluetooth technology into more TVs.

You don’t need to be an industry expert to see how consumers could benefit from having Bluetooth technology built into their TV sets. You could pair Bluetooth wireless headphones with your TV or pair a mobile phone, tablet or laptop with your TV and send photos and video directly to a huge, high-definition screen. Likewise, TV manufacturers could benefit by gaining a major new feature to help them market their products. This is just one example of many Bluetooth SIG members will hear about in Budapest.
